Those who regularly follow my blog probably know how obsessed we are with smoothies. Not only do we drink smoothies in the morning, but we often savor them as a part of our afterschool snack routine as well. 

One of our favorite smoothies is this dry fruit smoothie. Made with the goodness of dried fruits and milk, this smoothie is a healthy beverage instead of a cup of coffee or juice.

Why use dry fruits in smoothies?

Dry fruits such as dates, raisins, figs, etc., provide essential nutrients that are rich in fiber and are a good source of antioxidants. The natural sweetener in these fruits can eliminate the need to add sugar to smoothies or milkshakes.

From boosting your immune system to providing a punch of antioxidants, dry fruit smoothies offer numerous health benefits due to the presence of dry fruits. This is because dried fruits are –

  1. High in vitamins and minerals that support bone health.
  2. Rich in dietary fibers that help regulate the digestive system. They are also filling, and this prevents mindless snacking.
  3. A good source of antioxidants and help reduce inflammation.
  4. High in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats lower the risk of heart disease.

To summarize, drinking a dry fruit milkshake is an easy and delicious way to include essential nutrients in your diet. Whether starting your day or refueling after a long day, a dry fruit smoothie can be both satiating and satisfying.

Ingredient notes/swaps

  • Whole milk – for a vegan version, use oat milk or almond milk, or any plant-based milk of your choice.
  • Bananas sliced into bite-sized chunks
  • Raisins (golden or black) – add a hint of sweetness.
  • Chopped dates – Make sure to use pitted mejdool dates. If you don’t have a high-performance blender, soak the dates in 1/4 cup of warm milk or water for 15-30 minutes. Dates are known for their natural sweetness, so there is no need to add sugar.
  • Nuts – cashew nuts and almonds (make sure they are unsalted)
  • Ice cubes, optional

Variations

The best part of this dry fruit smoothie recipe is that it is very versatile. You can create your own version with dried fruits and nuts, such as figs, pistachios, walnuts, pecans, etc.

  1. To make a thick smoothie bowl. Add chopped frozen bananas for extra creaminess or
  2. To make a creamy dry fruit milkshake recipe, add a scoop of vanilla ice cream and blend it in.
  3. Spice/spice powders – add a pinch of saffron and/or ground cardamom while blending for a delicate fragrance.

Tips

  1. If you’d like your smoothie to be sweeter, you can add a tablespoon of honey or maple syrup. Adjust the sweetness to your taste.
    Blend all the ingredients until you have a smooth and creamy consistency. If you prefer a colder smoothie, you can also add some ice cubes and blend again until they’re fully incorporated.
