Dry ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

Wet ingredients

  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1/4 cup butter

Optional ingredient

  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chip morsels


  • Preheat the oven at 350 degrees F.Grease a 9X5-inch loaf pan.
  • Combine the dry ingredients (flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar) in a bowl.
  • Mix together buttermilk and egg till it combines and then add it to the flour mixture and mix it till the flour gets moistened. Add melted butter to this mixture and mix well. Pour the mixture to the greased pan.
  • Place the pan in a pre-heated oven and bake it until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean, around 60 - 65 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and let the bread cool in the pan for a few minutes and then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
  • Use a serrated knife to cut the bread into slices.
