A small cheese pizza, cut into strips with a pizza cutter.

Pizza is a Friday night staple and always a popular choice among guests, adults, and kids alike. I haven’t met many people who don’t like the occasional (or weekly) slice of pizza. That’s probably because there are so many topping options that almost everyone finds a combination they like.

While most of the time, pizza night means calling for delivery or takeout, it can easily be made at home with a few easy tweaks.

While pizza dough can be time-consuming to make at home, using an air fryer and naan as a crust cuts the prep time to a fraction of the typical homemade pizza. Not to mention the thinner crust means a lot fewer calories, making air fryer naan pizza a healthy alternative to delivery.

The best part is that each pizza can be completely customized, meaning it can please even the pickiest of eaters. Just lay out several prep bowls of toppings, and everyone can put together their ideal pizza. Then, pop it into the air fryer, and dinner is ready in just 10 minutes.

Whether you make an air fryer cheese pizza or a veggie-packed version, you will love the crispy results you get from using an air fryer. The cheese is perfectly melted and bubbly, while the crust is lightly toasted and warmed through. It’s the ideal weeknight meal or a quick and easy snack for enjoying with a movie.

Reasons to love this recipe

  • Perfect for picky eaters – everyone can choose their toppings!
  • Comes together in less than 10 minutes – Yes, that’s less than half of the time of a store-bought frozen pizza!
  • Set up a pizza bar at your next party and churn out personalized pizza in minutes.
  • No pizza base is needed! Just use naan or any flatbread of your choosing.

Here’s what you need to make the recipe

Ingredient notes/swaps

  • Naan – You can use either store-bought naan or my homemade naan. Both work well for air fryer pizza, but I prefer homemade.
  • Olive oil – Brushing the surface of the naan prevents it from becoming soggy. Olive oil is a good flavor choice for pizza, but you can also use a neutral oil like avocado oil.
  • Pizza sauce – We typically use marinara since it is what we have on hand. As long as it is thick, you can use either marinara or your favorite type of pizza sauce.
  • Cheese – I recommend shredded mozzarella cheese for a typical cheese pizza. You can also use freshly cut mozzarella slices for a veggie pizza, like I did.
  • Toppings – You can use whatever you like best! For a veggie-packed version, you may want to include chopped bell peppers, red onion, tomatoes, basil, and more! It’s completely customizable.

Tools

You’ll need an air fryer to make this recipe. Here are the two that I recommend:

  • Basket style (Phillips 7 QT, 1725W) – easier to flip food but cooks a smaller amount (2-3 servings).
  • Oven-style (Ninja Dual Heat Air Fryer – 1800W) – The oven-style ones usually take more space, but what’s unique about this Ninja one is that it flips vertically for easy storage on the countertop. Most importantly, it allows you to cook six chicken breasts, 2 lbs roast, or 4 lbs of fries – perfect for families of 4 or more.

TIPS

  • Use whole-wheat naan bread for a healthier version.
  • Avoid soggy crust – Brush the naan with olive oil before adding the sauce to prevent it from getting soggy.
  • Any thick tomato-based sauce will work for this recipe – we usually use marinara sauce because we always have that in our pantry.
  • You can also use homemade dough or storebought pizza base instead of naan. Make sure to bake the crust until it forms a firm base which will take about 3-4 minutes at 350°F.

Topping ideas

If you want to kick your Ninja air fryer pizza up a notch, try a variety of flavorful toppings. Here are a few of the most popular veggie pizza toppings:

  • Sun-dried tomatoes
  • Chopped bell peppers
  • Red onion
  • Mushrooms
  • Pesto
  • Basil
  • Olives
  • Artichokes
  • Spinach
  • Arugula
  • Fresh or roasted garlic

Other ways to switch it up

  • Try different kinds of cheese – Use a mix of mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Ricotta cheese tastes great too.
  • Add leafy greens such as basil, spinach leaves
  • Add protein – chicken, pepperoni, etc
  • Add seasonings such as Italian seasoning, oregano, chili pepper flakes, garlic powder
  • Vary the base sauce – you can use pizza sauce or tomato sauce instead of marinara sauce.

Meal prep and storage

Since naan pizza takes only a few minutes to prep and cook, I recommend making the pizzas when you’re ready to serve.

But if you want to cut the prep time and freeze, here’s how you can do it:

  • Bake the crust for 2-3 minutes at 350°F.
  • Add the sauce and topping.
  • Freeze the pizza individually for about an hour.
  • Wrap each pizza in plastic wrap and store it in the freezer for up to 3 months.

Refrigerate: Store the leftovers for 2-3 days.

Reheating pizzas

To reheat, pop it in the air fryer at 350°F for 2-3 minutes (refrigerated pizzas) and 6-8 minutes (frozen pizzas) or until heated through. Reheating it in the microwave will make it soggy.

Serve it with

While an air-fried pizza can be enjoyed on its own as a light meal, there are plenty of delicious options for serving alongside it. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Juicy air fryer chicken wings – This easy-to-make snack comes together in 30 minutes and can easily be customized to BBQ Chicken wings or Buffalo Chicken wings.
  • Buffalo chicken nachos – Loaded with shredded cheese, buffalo chicken, and endless toppings, these easy-to-make sheet pan nachos are a one-of-a-kind recipe!
  • Crispy air fryer French fries – You can whip up these goodies using an air fryer and treat your kids to this healthy homemade version of this popular fast food.
  • Quinoa salad (Costco inspired) – Step up your summer salad with this easy and healthy quinoa salad recipe. Packed with fluffy quinoa, freshly chopped vegetables, and a zesty lime dressing.
