Tropical Pineapple Mango Smoothie

When it comes to tropical smoothies, there’s something undeniably satisfying about blending together simple ingredients to create a drink that’s not only delicious but also incredibly nutritious.

One of my favorites is this creamy mango pineapple smoothie recipe – a perfect blend of fresh pineapple, mangos, oranges, and Greek yogurt.

Whether you enjoy it as a healthy breakfast, a refreshing drink to cool off on a hot summer day, or a delicious way to sneak in some extra nutrients, this recipe will not disappoint.

This fruity drink not only tastes great, but is also packed with nutrients. Let’s take a quick peek into the health benefits of this smoothie.

Health benefits

Fresh pineapple is the star of this tropical pineapple mango smoothie – it not only adds natural sweetness but is also rich in vitamin C. The bromelain enzyme in pineapples aids digestion and also offers anti-inflammatory benefits.

Mangos and oranges not only taste delicious but are also packed with vitamins. They promote good skin health and boost your immune system. The dietary fiber in these tropical fruits helps you with digestion and keeps you satiated for a long time.

Greek yogurt adds a dose of protein and creaminess to this smoothie.

Ingredient notes/swaps

Here’s what you’ll need to create the best mango pineapple smoothie

  • Pineapple chunks – I prefer fresh pineapple. If you don’t have it handy, frozen pineapple chunks will work, too.
  • Ripe mango, peeled and diced – ripe, fresh mangos are the sweetest. Pick a non-fibrous variety such as AtaulfoKent, or Keitt. If you are in India, Alphonso or Kesar are great options. When mangoes are not in season, feel free to use frozen mango pieces.
  • Orange, peeled – You can use either navel oranges or clementines – make sure they are fresh and sweet. You can also substitute fresh orange with 1/4 cup orange juice and reduce the amount of other liquids used.
  • Plain Greek Yogurt – for a dose of protein. You can also swap it with Vanilla yogurt or coconut yogurt. Any non-dairy milk, such as coconut, almond, or oat milk, will work too.
  • Sweeteners – You can use honey, maple syrup, or any other sweetener of your choice.

How to prep ahead

You can prep for this healthy mango pineapple smoothie in advance by making freezer smoothie packs. Add all the fruits to a freezer-safe Ziploc bag and store them in the freezer.

When ready to make the smoothie, remove the smoothie pack from the freezer, add the remaining ingredients, and blend until smooth.

Tips and Tricks

  • To make a thick and creamy smoothie, use frozen fruits. You can always use store-bought, but I love to freeze fresh fruits like ripe pineapple and mango chunks when in season and use them later.
  • Use a high-powered blender like Blendtec or Vitamix to ensure the frozen fruits are pureed properly without leaving any unsightly bits behind.

Can I use frozen fruits instead of fresh ones?

Yes. Frozen fruits give a thick and creamy smoothie, but you might need to add more liquid to get a flowing consistency.

What fruits go well in this tropical smoothie?

Some of the favorite fresh fruit combinations in a tropical smoothie include pineapple, orange, mango, and grapefruit.

How do I thicken this smoothie?

Use less liquid to begin with and add it as needed to get the desired consistency. Other options for a thicker smoothie include adding chopped frozen banana slices.

Can I make this smoothie vegan?

Absolutely. Replace yogurt with either coconut, oat, or almond milk for a dairy-free version. Also, replace honey with maple syrup.

The mango pineapple smoothie is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy the exotic flavors of the tropics. It can be enjoyed as a quick breakfast or a refreshing midday snack.

This recipe is one of my go-to’s on a summer day, and I’m confident it’ll be one of yours, too.

  • Leafy greens – Add a cup of baby spinach to this smoothie to sneak in some greens. It won’t alter the taste, but the color will change.
  • For a vegan option – skip the Greek yogurt and substitute it with coconut milk or coconut water for a tropical twist.
  • To make a mango pineapple banana smoothie, chop and freeze fresh bananas for 6-8 hours. Add the frozen bananas with the rest of the fruits and blend. Adding frozen bananas makes the smoothie thick and creamy, almost like a smoothie bowl. Feel free to add more liquid to get the desired consistency.
  • Other add-ins –
    • Add a teaspoon of chia seeds, flax seeds, or hemp seeds right before blending.
    • To make it more filling, you can also add 1/4 cup of rolled oats and blend it with the rest of the ingredients.
